What it is
SimpleFIN Bridge is a separate service that connects to banks and card issuers. You subscribe to it yourself, for $1.50 a month or $15 a year, paid to SimpleFIN. It works with many banks and cards in the US and Canada, and one subscription covers up to 25 of them.
Apps that support SimpleFIN read your balances and transactions through it. They can read, but they can't move money.
Why the app never sees your bank password
You sign in to your bank on SimpleFIN's site, not inside the app. The app gets a connection that can only read, and you can turn it off at any time in SimpleFIN, under Apps, without touching your bank login.
How connecting works
- Check your bank. Search SimpleFIN's list before you pay for anything.
- Make an account. SimpleFIN emails you a link to sign in, then asks you to subscribe.
- Add your bank. Go to Financial Institutions → New Connection and sign in to your bank there.
- Create a setup token. Go to Apps → New Connection → Create Setup Token and copy it.
- Paste it into the app. The app trades the token for a lasting connection.
A setup token works once. To connect another app, or the same app in another browser, create a new one.
How much history you get
In Spent So Far, SimpleFIN provides your last 90 days when you first connect. After that, the app keeps your history, so it grows every month.
The trade-offs
- You pay SimpleFIN directly, on top of whatever the app costs.
- Not every bank is supported, which is why you check first.
- Setup takes a few minutes and a copy-paste, rather than one tap.
